Design Philosophy
My designs reflect my personality and idiosyncrasies but I think they share an essence. They are clean and feminine and the materials I use have an inherent beauty. I seek out unusual beads and use quality materials because you can really tell the difference and my aim is to create things of beauty; for what is the purpose of jewelry if not to be simply gorgeous?
At the same time I think jewelry should be fun and not too serious so I create fine jewelry at great prices so that everyone can own something beautiful and original. My pieces complement a feminine party dress beautifully yet they are brilliant worn with a well-worn pair of jeans and a buttery suede jacket. I think they're the kind of things you decide to wear and then build the outfit around. Well, that's what I do!
I see my influences in my long time interests and it just makes sense when I think about it. I had a rock collection as a child that I kept in a wooden box with little compartments and lables for each specimen. I have always had a facination for rocks and crystals and actually have a minor in Geology! I am inspired by the stones themselves, and their colors and textures are the basis of my designs. I have also always had a facination for fashion and openly admit to being a bit of a clothes horse. I appreciate clothes that are well made but a bit quirky. I guess that's why I like to incorporate something a little unexpected and different and sometimes even off in my designs. I think it keeps the pieces fresh and exciting. I like making things that are classic and versatile but then I add a little twist, an unexpected color combination or a historical, anthropological or spiritual reference. I am still impressed with the fact that something naturally occurring and buried in dirt can be so beautiful and exist in such a range of brilliant colors and textures. Gems, pearls and metals are gifts of nature and I believe we satisfy a deep need by adorning ourselves with them. There is something so primitive and natural about it and this is my inspiration.
